KC Chiefs Mock Draft 8.0

Round 5: Pick 175 – Shi Smith, WR (South Carolina)

Gamecocks . Shi Smith. 175. player. 850. . Wide Receiver

I always intend to have the Chiefs address wide receiver early on in these mock drafts but it just never plays out in a way where that’s a logical move for me. In this mock, the Chiefs wait until round five before adding a wide receiver, but Shi Smith is a name that would likely pique fans’ interests.

Chiefs Continue to Revamp Offensive Line. light. Mock Draft

Smith’s 2020 numbers are decent, especially considering he played in just nine games last year. He hauled in 59 receptions for 633 yards and four touchdowns and consistently was a nice player for the Gamecocks despite the quarterback play being subpar. The quarterback play would be far from subpar in Kansas City, as Smith would have the best signal-caller in the NFL throwing to him.

Smith wouldn’t fill the WR2 role the Chiefs need to fill through the draft but he could certainly be a nice slot receiver option down the road. One major thing that jumped out to me in his draft profile on The Draft Network was that he had good hands, which is something the rest of the Chiefs offense outside of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce couldn’t say during the Super Bowl.

Fans probably wouldn’t be thrilled if the Chiefs waited until round draft a wide receiver, but Shi Smith is no slouch. He could be a lot of fun to watch under Andy Reid’s tutelage (see the video below for proof of that sentiment).
