Realistic Linebacker Options for KC Chiefs

1. Greg Newsome II (Northwestern)

Greg Newsome II gets the top spot here because there’s a shot he’ll be available late in the first round and he’s the best option out of the remaining names. Farley might be a better overall player, but there are fewer risks with Newsome.

According to Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus, Newsome allowed just 12 catches for 93 yards through six games in 2020. That’s pretty impressive, especially considering the talent in the Big 10. He’s clearly someone who can be on an island if need be and while that won’t happen right away in the NFL, pairing him with Sneed for the foreseeable future is fun to think about.

Newsome might not fall all the way to 31, but if he does, the Chiefs would really have a tough time passing on the Northwestern cornerback.

Cornerback hasn’t been discussed as a major need for the Chiefs this year and that’s probably because they have a fair share of depth at the position. That being said, with how pass-happy the NFL is, it’s never a bad idea to draft a cornerback early on.

Any of these players would be nice additions to the Chiefs’ secondary and could give them more of a lockdown unit moving forward.
