Positions KC Chiefs don’t need to address in draft

Running Back

The Chiefs spent their first-round pick last year on a running back and there’s a good chance they avoid adding a running back in the draft this year as a result. Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be the unquestioned starter at the position for the Chiefs and the team has plenty of depth behind him on the roster.

Darrel Williams impressed enough last year to earn a one-year deal and to send Damien Williams packing. Darwin Thompson, the team’s sixth-round pick in 2019, is likely the third-string option. The Chiefs also have Elijah McGuire and Derrick Gore, though neither guy has played a snap for the team.

Drafting running backs has become unpopular in recent years, as it’s been proven that teams can find valuable talent at the position as undrafted free agents. If the Chiefs do decide to find another option at the position, doing so after the draft wraps up is the best bet for them.

There are some appealing names that should be available near the end of the draft, but the Chiefs really don’t need to add anymore running backs, especially not with one of their limited draft picks.
