Running Backs for KC Chiefs to Target in Free Agency: Mark Ingram

This is probably too bold of a name, but after the Ravens made the decision to move on from Mark Ingram, he’s going to be motivated to prove he’s still that once-dominant back. He’s only two years removed from rushing for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Ravens, who made it a point to exclude him from their offensive game plan this past season.

Ingram had 299 rushing yards and two touchdowns in nine games with the Ravens this season. He’s 31 years old and as we know, running backs take a beating and aren’t as effective once they hit 30. This could be Ingram’s final chance to get a Super Bowl ring, so that could inspire him to take less money and sign with Kansas City.

Running Backs for KC Chiefs to Target in Free Agency: Rex Burkhead

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a Nebraska football fan, but I’m fascinated by Rex Burkhead and what he’s been able to accomplish in the NFL. Burkhead doesn’t put up the gawdy stats, but he’s a true grinder when he gets the ball (as Chiefs fans saw in the playoffs a few years back) and is a really dependable back.

This past season, he had 274 yards and three touchdowns while tallying another 192 yards through the air and capturing another three touchdowns via the pass. He’s someone who can do anything you ask him to and he’d be a perfect fit in the Chiefs offense.

Burkhead is 31 years old and wouldn’t be anything more than an RB3 in Kansas City, but he’d add another running back who can make a splash in both the run game and in the passing game.
