Targets for Round Two (Pick 63)

There should be plenty of value at the cornerback and interior offensive line positions in the second round. In the perfect draft, if the Chiefs could get Murray or Queen in the first round, they could still get quality players to fill other needs in the second and third rounds.

Let’s take a look at some targets for round two.

1. Damon Arnette, CB Ohio State

Arnette was listed in with the round one targets as a trade back option in my first draft big board. Here I moved him to a round two option. There is still a chance he goes early in the second, but he is not consistently going as high as what I would expect for a player of his caliber in mock drafts, so there is hope that he lasts to 63.

If he is there at 63, he would be a steal. Arnette is one of the most slept on corners in this draft and really doesn’t appear to have glaring holes. He does have some non-football concerns, which I discussed in my first Chiefs draft big board, but his talent is well worth second-round selection if his character checks out.

2. Bryce Hall, CB Virginia

Hall is one of my favorite corners in this draft and, like Arnette, was a trade back target in my first big board. He lacks elite athleticism but plays technically sound and physically to make up for it. He also has chemistry with Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill and apparently was a childhood Chiefs fan. Hall sounds like a match made in heaven for the Chiefs from both an on and off the field perspective.

3. Solomon Kindley, G Georgia

Kindley is a big person. He stands at 6’3″ 327 pounds and is more athletic than you would expect from a guard of his size. See my first draft big board if you’d like to read about me gushing over him. Kindley is not perfect, but is a guy who could possibly be a day one starter in Kansas City. It would be a blessing for Chiefs Kingdom (and Patrick Mahomes) to see his name at 63.

4. Robert Hunt, G/T Louisiana-Lafayette

Hunt was originally a round three target in my first big board, but it now appears to be pretty clear that the Chiefs would even be lucky to see him make it to 63 let alone 96. Kindley, as mentioned, is huge, but Hunt stands two inches taller than Kindley at about the same weight.

He is a pretty raw talent coming from a smaller school, but like Kindley, is pretty athletic for his size. Hunt is also versatile playing both tackle and guard in college. Hunt would make an excellent lineman for Kansas City who could protect Mahomes for years to come.

5. Lloyd Cushenberry III, G/C LSU

Cushenberry is similar to that of Ruiz in that he is a versatile player to have on the interior of your offensive line. He doesn’t have the athleticism that Ruiz has though but instead has a lot of power. Where Ruiz might struggle with physical rushers, Cushenberry might struggle with speed rushers.

However, Cushenberry is still good enough to be a day one starter despite his limitations. Cushenberry’s value to the Chiefs will hinge very heavily on how they view Austin Reiter and Nick Allegretti moving forward.
