3. Jody Fortson looks like a matchup nightmare

Jody Fortson had a killer first half. With the great performance in the final week of the preseason and Deon Yelder nursing an ankle injury, could Fortson sneak onto the 53-man roster? This is probably an unlikely scenario, but at absolute minimum Fortson probably just earned himself a spot on the practice squad.

Just on mismatch ability alone, Fortson would be an exciting addition to the active roster. The 6’6″ 230-pound tight end displayed his mismatch ability this week with a great catch on the sideline over the top of a defender for a nice gain in the first half. He was then able to, again, use his size to win a one on one matchup in the endzone to cap off that drive with a touchdown reception.

If this wasn’t enough, Fortson came out in the second half and proved he could be useful on special teams by forcing a fumble on a kickoff. Fortson is a very exciting player and this game alone was enough for me to jump on the Jody Fortson hype train.

Could he do the unthinkable and make a late offseason jump onto the 53-man roster? We will find out soon enough. If not, it is probably a safe bet to say that he will likely be on the practice squad this year with the opportunity to earn a roster spot next summer.
