The emergence and growth of second round pick Mecole Hardman may turn out to be bad news for Robinson. An offense deep at primary receiving options between Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and the running back position, the Chiefs also have developmental depth in Byron Pringle, Gehrig Dieter and undrafted rookies Cody Thompson and Jamal Custis.
Robinson is entering the last year of his contract and would the Chiefs opt to keep the former Florida Gator in place of a developmental option under contract for multiple years?
If Robinson is merely the fourth or fifth option in the offense, it’s hard to imagine him sticking around. Hardman and Hill provide speed and more speed along with quality routes and the ability to take the ball the distance anytime they touch the ball.
Robinson may very well make the team, but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t. The Chiefs have a lot of depth and a team lacking in receiving depth may very well be interested in trading for the fourth year receiver, allowing the Chiefs to add a draft asset in the 2020 or 2021 draft.
