I’ve been preaching it for weeks now, but this offseason is going to be a sloooow one for the Kansas City Royals. A few trades here and there, however, wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever.

More from Kansas City Royals

The Royals have several players they could ship off this winter and it wouldn’t shock people if they did just that. While the Royals appear to have a decent young core moving forward, there’s no such thing as too many good prospects in the farm system.

If the Royals can continue to add to their minor leagues and prepare themselves for the future, that’s the best thing moving forward. This team realistically won’t be ready to contend until 2021 and that’s why if any of their players now are getting buzz on the trade market, the Royals need to listen to every offer out there.

The most likely player to be flipped in a deal is easily Whit Merrifield. The Royals second baseman is 29 years old, on an affordable deal and in the books through 2023, not to mention he’s versatile on defense. Who wouldn’t want that guy on their team?

Some of these entires aren’t the most realistic, like Salvador Perez and Ian Kennedy, but I chose to include them anyway. Perez is someone the Royals will keep around for at least another year or two while Kennedy wouldn’t be traded due to no team wanting to take on that hefty contract.

The offseason is just beginning for the Kansas City Royals, but we’ll see how many trades the team ends up making this winter.
