FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS SOUTH CAROLINA

NUMBER 1 – BACKUP QUARTERBACK LIKELY PLAYING FOR GAMECOCKS

It was announced on Friday morning that Gamecocks starting quarterback Jake Bentley was more than likely not going to start on Saturday against Missouri. Instead, backup quarterback Michael Scarnecchia would be the starting signal caller.

The South Carolina quarterbacks did not play well last week and that obviously bodes well for the Tigers defense. Jake Bentley went 13 of 28 for 148 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions while Michael Scarnecchia, who came in after Bentley hurt his knee, went four of six for 45 yards. Not exactly the production the Gamecocks wanted to see against Kentucky.

Missouri’s defense held its own against Jake Fromm last week and actually made him look human in the first half of the game. They were able to intercept one of his first passes and make him uncomfortable early.

The second half was another story, however, as Fromm was able to do just about whatever he wanted to lead the Bulldogs to victory. Hopefully we don’t see that same situation play itself out in Columbia, SC this weekend.

Facing a backup quarterback is a good thing for Missouri and fans have to be feeling much more confident about their chances in this game now. MU should be able to limit Scanecchia, who hasn’t seen much playing time this season.
