STARTING ROTATION CANDIDATES – ERIC SKOGLUND

Last season, Royals fans witnessed Eric Skoglund‘s first start and it was a gem. He pitched 6 1/3 innings of two hit baseball and zero runs in his major league debut.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got with Skoglund. Pretty much every start after that was rough and it was apparent that Skoglund needs more fine tuning before the Royals can officially slot him in as a starter.

With that said, however, the organization clearly sees a bright future with Skoglund. He’ll be in this rotation at some point down the road and potentially in 2018 (especially if injuries are as plentiful as they were last year). The chances of him landing a starting gig right out of spring training are slim.

If Skoglund pitches like he did in his MLB debut, then yes, we’ll definitely be seeing him start in 2018. More than likely though, he’ll begin the season in Omaha and then work his way through the bullpen and into the rotation.
