Lorenzo Cain’s market hasn’t been as “out there” as Eric Hosmer’s and Mike Moustakas’ have been. Listing potential suitors for those two guys was easy while Cain was a little more of a challenge.

Initially I had the Seattle Mariners on this list too, but they recently traded for Dee Gordon and plan to play him in center field. That obviously will take them out of the running for Lorenzo Cain’s services.

On my other two “free agent landing spots” posts, I listed the Kansas City Royals as a possible destination for both Hosmer and Moustakas. I couldn’t do it with Cain though because there has been ZERO buzz about the team re-signing him.

It’s sad, but it makes sense. The Royals already shelled out $72 million to one aging outfielder in Alex Gordon and they don’t need to make that same mistake again. That’s not to say that Cain will drop off as badly as Gordon did, but he is only a year younger and has been injury prone throughout his entire career.

It’ll be tough seeing Cain leave, but we all sort of expected this. He’s in his 30s and it’s always been public that the Royals were going to attempt to keep Hosmer over anyone else.

Best of luck to Cain wherever he goes! We’ll miss watching those crazy catches and dives in the outfield!
