POTENTIAL LANDING SPOTS FOR LORENZO CAIN – TORONTO BLUE JAYS

The Toronto Blue Jays disappointed many last year, failing to make the postseason for the first time since the 2014 season. They lacked feasible defense in the outfield and speed on the base paths and Lorenzo Cain could provide both of those things.

There has been interest in Cain from the Blue Jays, as Jerry Crasnick tweeted in November (see below) and this could be a fit for both sides for sure. According to Arden Zwelling of SportsNet, Cain would be a better option in the outfield than anyone the Blue Jays currently have. Zwelling wrote,

"Cain would represent a considerable improvement on every outfielder the Blue Jays ran out in 2017 and every outfielder they currently have on their roster. If the Blue Jays want to make a big splash in free agency, Cain is the natural choice."

Kevin Pillar has been a pretty good center fielder for the Blue Jays, but adding Cain would only make that outfield stronger defensively. Perhaps Toronto is going to take a page out of Kansas City’s book and start relying heavily on their defense? Hmm.

It’d be a little bit of a kick in the gonads to see both Cain and former Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales playing for Toronto, but that Royals/Blue Jays rivalry might not have expanded past that 2015 season, so I guess we can’t whine too much.
