Missouri State isn’t a powerhouse in Division I football at all. The Bears should never have been in this game, but thanks to the poor efforts of Missouri’s defense, Missouri State was right in this thing until the third quarter.
In fact, Missouri State led several times throughout the first half of the game and put up 43 total points on the day. It’ll be interesting to see what type of adjustments MU’s defensive coordinators make for their second game of the season next week.
Aside from the atrocious defense, Missouri looked promising on offense. Drew Lock was clicking with his receivers and the running backs looked like they were in midseason form. Putting up 72 points is nothing to scoff at and if MU can be this hot on offense every week, then they’ll have a chance to compete with tougher schools, even if their defense is bad.

Mizzou football will begin SEC play next week, squaring off against the South Carolina Gamecocks in the wonderful confines of Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri. The Gamecocks shouldn’t be too much for the Tigers and MU will hopefully come out as the winners of this game.
