Albert Wilson – Wide Receiver (Tendered)

The Kansas City Chiefs will return their entire receiving corps from 2016 this year. This comes after the Chiefs decided to use the low round tender on former starter Albert Wilson. This isn’t a move that will draw a round of applause for the Chiefs front office, but I think it’s a good one. If nothing else, John Dorsey has ensured a certain level of competition in Training Camp this year.

If Albert Wilson is your worst wide receiver, you’re not doing too bad. While not a top tier player, Wilson has shown the ability to make big plays at key moments. He is also a player that fits the Chiefs version of the West Coast Offense pretty well. His ability to move with the ball in the open field is highly underrated.

A move like this doesn’t lock Albert Wilson onto the roster. The Chiefs will still be able to release him should they find a better option. I won’t rule out a wide receiver in the draft this year, and the Chiefs have been looking at some. However, having Wilson as the fourth or fifth receiver in the group is not a bad option.
