Chiefs Top Raider Week Moments No. 11: Nine Straight
October 21, 2007
Throughout various stretches in the Kansas City Chiefs rivalry with the Raiders, one team or the other has dominated. That was the case from 2003 to 2007 when the Chiefs would win nine straight games against the Raiders. Those were the early years of what would become a 14 season stretch of .500 or worse football for Oakland.
For the Chiefs, this was great. This represented the end of the Dick Vermeil and beginning of the Herm Edwards eras. It was largely an exciting time in Chiefs football as the Vermeil offenses were known for being incredibly explosive. The fact they were able to repeatedly beat the Raiders just added to general happiness of Kansas City.
While the Chiefs did win this game, many saw that a change was coming. KC only won by a score of 12-10, and neither team looked very good. However, this was still nine straight victories in the rivalry, which stands as the top mark in the series history.
