The KC Chiefs are hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston made a comment about not worrying about the Arrowhead environment and now will have to pay the price.

Look, nobody ever said that Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was the brightest of individuals.

The guy allegedly stole crab legs while in college and is most known for jumping on a table and yelling a vulgar phrase. The latter caused him to earn a one-game suspension his junior year at Florida State.

Winston made headlines in Chiefs Kingdom this week when he discarded the Arrowhead Stadium environment by stating that he’s playing against the Chiefs, not the noise.

While yes, that’s technically a true statement, Winston has never played at Arrowhead before. He has no idea what he’s about to walk into on Sunday.

While the advantage hadn’t been as prominent from about 2007-2013, the Arrowhead Stadium advantage is returning to what it was in the 1990s. Back then, playing in Arrowhead was a nightmare for opposing teams, especially on offense.

More from KC Kingdom

  • John Elway once had to beg a referee to tell the crowd to be quiet because he couldn’t hear. The referee then threatened to use a Chiefs timeout if the crowd didn’t simmer down.
  • About a decade ago, Tom Brady threw four picks against the Chiefs and was visibly frustrated all day because of the noise.
  • During the 2013 season, the Raiders had a 4th and 48 due to crowd noise

I could list a ton of other examples, but those are my personal favorites.

The fact of the matter is that Arrowhead IS a component to any Chiefs home game. It can absolutely make or break the way the opposing team plays and has definitely won the Kansas City Chiefs games on several occasions.

As much as we love our barbecue and tailgating here in Kansas City, we love our Chiefs more. With a 7-2 record and home field advantage in the playoffs on the line, you just KNOW that Chiefs fans are going to show up loud and proud on Sunday.

Winston might have dug himself a huge hole to climb out of by making this comment, but I guess you can’t really blame the kid. He’s never played anywhere like Arrowhead and it’ll be a rude awakening for the former number one overall pick.

If you’re going to the game on Sunday – BE AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE. Make Jameis Winston regret ever saying something so stupid. Show him what Arrowhead Stadium is all about because this kid has no idea what’s coming.
