Kansas City Chiefs Draft Target No. 6

Desmond King – CB – Iowa

You could argue that Desmond King should be higher on the Kansas City Chiefs draft board. You could also argue that King is the single best corner in this draft class. Neither assessment would necessarily be wrong. Desmond King has proven himself to be one of the best cover corners in college football.

An excellent athlete with explosive speed, Desmond King also doubles as a return man. He plays with a natural aggressiveness and seems to relish competition. Shows the ability to be comfortable in almost every type of coverage system. Has excellent ball skills, and also shows the ability to stick with receivers for long periods of time.

The biggest concern with Desmond King is his height at 5’10. King can tend to be a bit over-aggressive which will lead to penalties or being caught in a bad position. The combination of those things will give taller wide receivers an advantage.

Like many analysts, my biggest concern with Desmond King is his height. The Chiefs got away from their tall corner system this year, and it has hurt at times. It is tough for smaller corners to compete for jump balls with larger receivers. My opinion is that the Chiefs need a taller guy on the outside. However, King is good enough that I won’t get hung up on that.
