KC Chiefs Select Local Product In 2016 NFL Mock Draft

Round 5 – Pick 26: Kenyan Drake, Running Back (Alabama)
Jamaal Charles isn’t going to play forever. Even though it appears he’s going to come back as strong as ever, he’s coming off his second ACL injury. He’s also constantly on the injury report with a bump or bruise of some kind (though that’s not uncommon in the NFL).
Taking a running back in the fifth-round is relatively safe and there is still plenty of value to be found. Charcandrick West didn’t even get drafted and performed well for the Chiefs last season.
Everyone knows about the big running back coming out of Alabama this year, but they have another running back that could add value as well. Kenyan Drake has been overshadowed by Derrick Henry and his injuries at Alabama, but the combine showed he’s very talented.

- 40 Yard Dash: 4.45 seconds
- Bench Press: 10 reps
- Broad Jump: 123 inches
- Three Cone Drill: 7.04 seconds
- 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.21 seconds
- Vertical Jump: 34.5 inches
Kenyan Drake was not just good at the combine, he was great. He was considered a top performer in the 40 yard dash, the broad jump, and the 20 yard shuttle drills. He finished sixth in the three cone drill and eighth in the vertical jump. The only drill he finished poorly in was bench press repetitions in which he finished dead last.
Here’s what NFL.com has to say about the second-string running back from Alabama:
"Features second gear to burst through line and can string together moves in open field. Will press line of scrimmage effectively to set up his blocks. Legs keep churning through contact. Willing to aggressively finish runs. Will gain more yards post contact than expected. Very quick feet with the lateral agility to escape from heavy traffic and bounce it outside."
In spite of playing second fiddle to Derrick Henry, he was still effective at Alabama. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry and also caught 46 passes for 570 yards out of the backfield.
The Chiefs are very good at utilizing pass catching running backs. He’s never going to be Jamaal Charles, but no one else is either.
