KC Chiefs: Grading The 2013 Draft
By Scott Dillon
Round One: Eric Fisher
Grade: C-
The KC Chiefs took Eric Fisher in the first-round of the 2014 NFL draft. It wasn’t a surprise to most that he was picked because it was leaked earlier in the day that Fisher would be the Chiefs pick.
Only a year before, players like Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III were picked opening the draft. The Chiefs earned the first overall pick in the draft and had much less attractive options.
It’s a good thing the Chiefs have a quarterback that is capable of scrambling or else some defensive player lined up on the blind side may have killed him.
While Eric Fisher has shown flashes of his ability, he is not the player the Chiefs needed, or expected, him to be.The Chiefs drafted Fisher to replace Brandon Albert. They were losing a Pro Bowl talent at the left tackle position and Fisher was touted to be worthy of replacing him.
So far Eric Fisher has been widely disappointing. He’s been very inadequate at the left tackle position. It’s a good thing the Chiefs have a quarterback that is capable of scrambling or else some defensive player lined up on the blind side may have killed him.
Eric Fisher has shown a little bit more physicality lately. He issued a big blow to J.J. Watt in the Chiefs’ playoff win over the Houston Texans. While he did that from the position of left tackle, Fisher simply plays better from the right tackle position.
The Chiefs may be looking to fill the left tackle position again this off-season. If they can find someone that can handle that duty, Fisher can move into a spot that is more hospitable.
