Round Five: James O’Shaughnessy

Round Six: Rakeem Nunez-Roches

Round Seven: Da’Ron Brown

Grade: C

Perhaps the best of these three players is James O’Shaughnessy, who’s season was cut short by a foot injury that landed him on the injured reserve.

When he was on the field he showed superior pass catching ability with vertical quickness down the field. He and Travis Kelce have the potential to be the be the best tandem of pass catching tight ends in the NFL if both can stay healthy.

Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Da’Ron Brown are relative unknowns at this point.

Nunez-Roches saw very little playing time on the defensive line, but may have a spot with some vacancies created by free agency. He’s undersized for his position, but does come out of his blocks quickly. There could be some upside there, but it’s unlikely.

More from KC Kingdom

Da’Ron Brown spent most of his time on the practice squad and likely will never be more than a depth piece.

The fact that the Chiefs got anything of value out of a fifth round pick or later is great. With the impending departures of veteran free-agents, the chiefs will be in good shape if at least one more player can earn an ‘A’ grade in the future.

It’s huge that they got such immediate impact from so many rookies, and a strong draft in 2016 may help push them over the edge and take the AFC west title from the Broncos.

Mel Kiper gave the Chiefs an overall draft grade of ‘A’ in an article that can be found here. It’s very easy to see why, when you look at the early returns.
