Jace Amaro is considered a deep sleeper due to the fact that he plays for the New York Jets. Amaro has the build to be a great tight end in the NFL, but having Geno Smith as your quarterback isn’t the best recipe for success in the league.

During his rookie season with the Jets, Amaro had 345 yards and two touchdowns, and if you had him as your tight end, I’m sure you were not pleased with the end results (hopefully he wasn’t your starter).

Amaro might have more upside in 2015, as Smith is slated to be out for half the season with a broken jaw he sustained during training camp. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a much better quarterback than Smith, and should be able to get the ball in Amaro’s hands more than Smith could. That, to you, means more receptions, which means more touchdowns, which means more fantasy points, which means good times being had.

The addition of Brandon Marshall in New York will open things up for Amaro too, as now defenders will have their hands full with Marshall and Eric Decker. Fitzpatrick should be able to get the ball to Amaro more frequently due to these other two receivers needing attention in the secondary.

While Amaro isn’t going to be a star this season, he’s a decent backup tight end option. Now when Smith comes back, be cautious.
