Number Seven
If the KC Chiefs don’t manage to draft UCLA inside linebacker Eric Kendricks in the second round they should seriously consider Miami inside linebacker Denzel Perryman with the 80th overall pick.
While Perryman may not be the immediate answer to the KC Chiefs rush defense woes, he could be an important piece in the future if given the opportunity to learn under Derrick Johnson.
Perryman’s best attribute may be that he looks to make contact and when given the opportunity to square up a player and make a hit he usually makes the most of it by making a highlight reel hit.
"Lacks desirable height but has the look of a prototypical inside ‘backer with a stout, thick frame. Instinctive and tough. Showed improved closing speed and explosiveness as a tackler in 2014. Strong, active hands, agile feet and good use of leverage free him from blocks. Good burst and lower-body flexibility. Picks up routes quickly. Smooth hips to hitch himself to a crossing route and maintain stride-for-stride coverage on slot receivers. Durable. Voted team captain. -Courtesy of Derek Stephens and Rob Rang of CBS Sports"
Perryman is listed as the fourth best inside linebacker, and 76th best overall prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft according to CBS Sports. Perryman is the most likely of all the third round players on our wish list to still be on the board when the Chiefs are on the clock and the Chiefs would be crazy to not seriously consider taking Perryman at 80 overall.
Kendricks in the second round is my ideal pick to improve the inside linebacker position but Perryman in the third round would be a good consolation prize if the Chiefs are unable to select Kendricks.
