Week 9: New York Jets @ Kansas City Chiefs

Rex Ryan is holding onto his job for dear life and the only reason he’s back this season is because he exceeded expectations in 2013 with his teams 8-8 record.

This year, Ryan added free agents, Chris Johnson, Michael Vick, and Eric Decker.

The Jets are striving to be better on offense as that has been their weakest link since Rex Ryan took over as the head coach in 2009. Where they’re not lacking is on the defensive side of the ball, especially within their front seven.

The emergence of first round pick, Sheldon Richardson has been tremendous for Ryan’s defensive line and you partner him with Kendrick Ellis and ILB, David Harris and you have a very good core group.

Another intriguing guy they have on their roster is rookie safety, Calvin Pryor from Louisville. People will argue that he was the better safety prospect in this years class over Alabama’s Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and you could understand why. Pryor is a hard hitter who can cover a lot of ground in the defensive backfield. You have to think that Ryan is licking his chops over this kid and I could see him making a big impact for them in 2014.

As mentioned before, the addition of Michael Vick to mentor Geno Smith will raise a lot of question marks for their 2014 campaign. Who will win that battle from training camp? And even if it is Vick, there is no guarantee that he will still be the starter by week 9.

The Jets do have a better roster than they did last year, but I don’t think it will be enough to get them back into the playoffs and Rex Ryan could lose his job even before the season ends, depending on how things go.

With this game being in Arrowhead, I see the Chiefs taking this one but it won’t be easy. KC Chiefs win, 14-10.
