6. Texas A&M Aggies
Record: 5-2 (2-2)
Previous Ranking: 3
Last Week: Auburn 45, A&M 41
This Week: vs Vanderbilt
Next Week: vs. UTEP
Texas A&M’s defense ranks 104th in the nation in points allowed per game. Sam Houston represents the only opponent they’ve held to under 30 points and they scored 28. Arkansas, who are averaging a shade over 20 points per game, put a 33 spot on them. That’s the lowest of any SEC team the Aggies have faced.
We can talk about Johnny Manziel‘s injury at the end of the game, turnovers, and the lack of someone opposite of Mike Evans at wide receivers. But 41 points should win you an SEC game. Any game, really. And the fact that the defense cannot slow anyone down enough to prevent them from scoring under 40 points is a really huge point of concern.
A&M has an offense that could probably beat anybody in the nation, but the defense is letting them down. Seeing an improvement from the defense before the end of the season is extremely unlikely.
