Kansas State football got off to a hot start under first year coach Chris Klieman, but since then, the Wildcats have not come away with a victory. They’re hoping to get conference win number one on Saturday against TCU.

The Kansas State Wildcats were a surprising program through the first three weeks of the college football season, but they came back down to Earth quickly after being ranked. They fell to Oklahoma State in their first Big 12 game of the year and in the next week, fell to undefeated Baylor.

This week presents a winnable game for the Wildcats; the TCU Horned Frogs, who at one point were ranked themselves. The two teams are similar in that they’re 3-2, were both ranked at one point or another, and they’re looking to get back in the win column.

Kansas State is all too familiar with one of the many quarterbacks on TCU’s roster, as it’s Alex Delton, who played for the Wildcats from 2015-2018 and transferred to TCU this year. So far, Delton has thrown for just 312 yards and an interception while rushing for 100 yards.

The Horned Frogs have a slew of other quarterbacks on their roster too, but Max Duggan leads them in passing yards with 742 to go along with nine touchdowns. Duggan will likely be who K-State will have to slow down, but it wouldn’t be surprising in the least bit if Delton got quite a bit of playing time against his old team.

For Kansas State, they need just three more wins to be bowl eligible for the 2019 season. After this game, they’ll host Oklahoma in what will surely be a loss. After that, they play against their in-state rivals in Lawrence, travel to Texas for a game against them, and host West Virginia the next week. They round out the year with a trip to Lubbock and a home game against Iowa State.

The Wildcats should be able to grab three more wins, but taking down TCU on Saturday would make fans feel a lot better about it. It’d be nice for Klieman to get in the win column when it comes to conference play, and if they end up losing, they’ll suddenly be at .500, which isn’t okay after beginning the year with a 3-0 record.

Hopefully Big 12 win number one comes on Saturday for Chris Klieman, but if he doesn’t get it this weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities to grab that first conference win.
