The Kansas City Chiefs have an impressive group of running backs on the roster. After two preseason games, the most electric running back aside from Kareem Hunt is clearly undrafted free agent rookie Darrel Williams.

Kareem Hunt‘s eye-opening rookie season gives the Kansas City Chiefs all the reasons to feel confident with the backfield production. However, Hunt is only human (debatable) and cannot provide production with every snap (obviously).

After having Spencer Ware, and Charcandrick West, general manager Brett Veach went to work this offseason with adding depth in the backfield to help out Hunt. With the signings of Damien Williams and Kerywnn Williams, Veach added yet another Williams and signed rookie running back Darrel Williams.

It is obvious that Veach did not care about the media and added far too many Williams to the roster, making it a struggle for bloggers like me to write stories. So to simplify this article, we will stick to a first name basis, which is rare to happen.

In college, Darrel never had the spotlight on him at LSU. Having a heavy recruitment process and playing at a big school, to becoming an undrafted free agent convinces many that he was nothing but a bust in college. For those who think he was a disappointment clearly need to remember that he played in the backfield with names like Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice.

During his preseason performances, Darrell has shown the Chiefs his skill set that many did not know about. He showed his hard-running, hard-to-bring-down attributes, among many other promising elements.

His rookie debut in preseason game number one, Williams 16 total yards off of six attempts. Preseason game number two, Darrel ran for 15 total yards off of six attempts – not to mention his 21 reception yards as well.

Are these flashy stats? No, not at all. But for those who pay attention to Darrel know his hard-nose running skills are a reason for Chiefs Kingdom to open their eyes and to notice him and his potential he brings.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

There is no doubt plenty of competition for the rookie to make the roster this season. However, if he continues to impress and play the way he has, there is a path for him that leads directly to the 53-man roster for the Chiefs.

Darrel Williams’ quiet college career may be a blessing in disguise, for him, and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs got a steal in the undrafted free agency process for the rookies and Darrel has a chance to play for a great organization and be a team member of this promising offense for years to come.

For the record, this article is not to highlight his quiet college career. This is more for a oppertunity to give the credit Darrel deserve, and remind Chiefs Kingdom that he has a great chance to make the roster because of his talent, and experience in the past.

Go ahead and write his name down Chiefs Kingdom. He is worth the watch.
