The KC Royals just faced the New York Yankees last week, but are already seeing them for the second time this season just days later. This time the games will be on the road and the Royals need to take the series this time.

Sure, the KC Royals are technically “still in it” due to a weak division, but in order to win the American League Central, the Royals will have to start winning games against divisional opponents. That’s a task that has been difficult for the boys in blue this season, as they lost another series against the Twins over the weekend.

Now, the Royals head to New York for a four-game series against the Yankees. The Yankees just took two out of three from Kansas City last week at Kauffman Stadium and the Royals need to go out and get their revenge.

The Yankees have been one of the best teams in the American League so far this season and will look to continue that against the fifth place Kansas City Royals.

What Royals should we be keeping an eye on in this series? Let’s take a look.

LORENZO CAIN

Lorenzo Cain has been in a bit of a slump over the last week or so. In the Royals’ last two series, Cain has only notched two hits and has not looked like the Lorenzo Cain that Royals fans have grown accustom to over the years.

Cain’s numbers still look good, however, as the center fielder is slashing .272/.366/.358 in 41 games and 151 at bats. A lot of those are due to the hot streak that Cain was on for awhile, but his slump has been noticeable for sure.

Don’t expect Cain to slump for much longer. He’s been one of the Royals’ best hitters during this crew’s run and that shouldn’t change. All hitters go through a down period and hopefully that’s all this is for LoCain at the moment.
