Mizzou football has seen one of their alumni get drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft! Defensive lineman Charles Harris will be heading to Miami to play for the Dolphins.

Despite not a great year for Mizzou football, they’ve watched as yet another Tiger has gone on to be drafted by an NFL team. That lucky guy is Charles Harris, who will be joining the Miami Dolphins in 2017 for his rookie year.

The Dolphins went 10-6 a season ago and made it to the playoffs for the first time since the 2009 season. They need help with stopping the run, as they just got absolutely demolished by the Steelers running game in the AFC Wild Card Game. That ultimately led to their demise in the playoffs.

Harris will be a great fit for the Fins. During his time at Missouri, Harris had 136 tackles and 34.5 sacks. He had a whopping 18.5 sacks during his sophomore season in Columbia and was one of the few names to watch out of Missouri in this draft.

Charles Harris should be going into a good situation in Miami. The Dolphins have good defensive players, but haven’t quite figured out how to use them yet. Ndamukong Suh is one of those great players, who the Fins signed to a huge contract after the 2014 season.

Harris could end up being the only Missouri Tiger to be drafted this year, but he has made the University of Missouri quite proud with getting picked so high. Many local people wanted Harris to land with the Kansas City Chiefs at pick 27, but the Chiefs had traded up earlier on to get Patrick Mahomes at tenth overall.

In fact, I had the Chiefs drafting Harris at 27th overall in my final mock draft. I think the two would have been a good fit, but Miami is also a nice landing spot for the now former Missouri Tiger.

The Dolphins are going to have to continue to add defensive help if they want to contend in their division. They already have Tom Brady in the AFC East and as long as Brady is there, it’ll be tough to make any type of impact in that division.

What do you think, MU fans? Are you pumped to see Charles Harris land with the Miami Dolphins or do you think he would have excelled somewhere else?
