The KC Chiefs normally get gypped when it comes to primetime games that are scheduled each season. The 2017 schedule has flipped the script on that, as the Chiefs currently have six primetime games on the calendar this season.

When I first saw the Kansas City Chiefsschedule for 2017, I couldn’t believe all of the primetime games that were scheduled! Usually the Chiefs get a Thursday Night Football game, which all teams do, and then another primetime game either on Sunday night or Monday night.

This season, however, the Chiefs have two Thursday night games (including the season opener against the New England Patriots), two Sunday night games, and two Monday night games. The Chiefs even have a Saturday night game scheduled against the Chargers in late December.

Not only do these six games appear on the team’s schedule, but they’ll also face the Steelers in the “Game of the Week” slot in week six. That’ll be a revenge match-up of the divisional round of the playoffs this past season.

In years past, I’m normally griping about the lack of primetime games for the KC Chiefs. Last season they had zero games on Monday Night Football, which really pissed me off. The Chiefs had two Sunday Night Football games last year originally, one against Pittsburgh in week four and the other on Christmas night against Denver.

This year, the Chiefs schedule looks great. Here are their primetime games for the 2017 season with home games listed in bold.

  • Week 1 – New England Patriots (Season Opener)
  • Week 4 – Washington Redskins (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 5 – Houston Texans (Sunday Night Football)
  • Week 7 – Oakland Raiders (Thursday Night Football)
  • Week 8 – Denver Broncos (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 15 – Los Angeles Chargers (Saturday Night Football)

I’m very pleased with the amount of respect given to the Kansas City Chiefs in this schedule. Not only did they get six scheduled games in the primetime lights, but those primetime games are early in the season, meaning they can’t get flexed out.

More from KC Kingdom

A few years ago, the Chiefs had one scheduled Sunday night game against the Chargers, but it was slated for late in the season. With the Chargers being miserable that year, the game got flexed out, and with that, the Chiefs’ one appearance on Sunday Night Football was stripped away.

With all of these primetime games, fans will have plenty of fun games to choose from this season. Personally, I’m probably going to head to at least one Monday night game and hopefully can make it to that Saturday night game as well.

While I’m a little bummed that no Sunday night games are scheduled to occur at Arrowhead, that doesn’t mean one won’t be flexed in later. Remember – The Chiefs at Denver was pushed into the Sunday night spot after both teams were neck and neck for the AFC West crown.

This year’s schedule is also great, as the Chiefs really have two byes, once in week ten obviously, and the other coming in between week seven and eight. The Chiefs will travel to Oakland for Thursday Night Football and then won’t play again until Monday Night Football the following week against the Broncos.

What do you make of this schedule, Chiefs fans? Are you excited for all of the primetime games on the agenda?
