KC Chiefs: Super Bowl Not Interesting With Chiefs Not in it

KC Chiefs fans are used to their favorite football team not being in the Super Bowl, but this year’s big game just seems blah. Maybe that’s because the Chiefs really should have been partaking in the Super Bowl this year.

Call me an angsty, bitter Kansas City sports fan all you want, but this year’s Super Bowl has no pizzazz to it. It’s the same ol’ New England Patriots for the second time in the last three years against a team that no one cares about (much like the Chiefs).

As much as I’d like to root for the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl, I’m just not sure I can bring myself to cheer for Scott Pioli. I’m also just annoyed that the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t live up to the hype in the postseason and were eliminated in their first game once again.

In years past, I’ve gotten over the fact that the Chiefs weren’t in the Super Bowl because let’s face it… Hell would have had to freeze over for that to happen.

Now that the Chiefs are good, however, it’s starting to hurt more and more each year to see teams that the Chiefs have beaten in the regular season go on to hoist the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the NFL season.

More from KC Kingdom

In 2014, the Chiefs beat both the Patriots and the Seahawks, and last year beat the eventual Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos. This year if the Falcons win, the Chiefs would have handled them in the regular season as well.

At the end of the day, the Chiefs didn’t come close to a Super Bowl this year, but they should have. The Chiefs should have beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers and then traveled to Foxborough for the AFc Championship Game.

While the Patriots put the smackdown on the Steelers, I think the Chiefs would have made that game at least a little more interesting and had a decent shot at going to the Super Bowl. Had that been the case, obviously I’d be stoked out of my mind for the big game on Sunday evening.

This was the year for the Kansas City Chiefs to make it to the Super Bowl. The only really good team in the AFC was the Patriots and that’s who they would have had to face to make it there.

The Broncos will be back in 2017 and out for a vengeance, and the Raiders are going to be out to prove they weren’t a fluke in 2016. In other words, the KC Chiefs will have a very tough time repeating as AFC West champions.

I wish that Sunday’s Super Bowl had the Chiefs in it because I’d have been so freaking excited. Instead, I’ll be like the rest of Chiefs Kingdom. Stuffing my face with delicious unhealthy food and not really caring one way or another who comes out victorious in Super Bowl LI.
