The KC Royals won the World Series in 2015 and then followed it up with a stinker of a season. One of the highlights during the 2016 season, however, was designated hitter KendrysMorales, who will hit free agency this offseason.

When the end of the 2014 season rolled around, Kansas City Royals fans knew it would be the “end of an era” so to speak when it came to the designated hitter role.

That position had been filled mostly by Billy Butler during his time in the majors, but the Royals couldn’t afford the sum of money Billy was asking for. Even if they could, they’d have been hard pressed to spend big on a guy who hit nine home runs as a designated hitter.

Billy Butler then went on to sign a big contract with Oakland, and Dayton Moore and the Kansas City Royals had to go out and find his replacement.

That guy ended up being Kendrys Morales, which fans weren’t too thrilled with at the time.

Morales had been a largely productive player until he suffered a terrible injury after celebrating a walk-off grand slam (which he hit) and wasn’t the same after. Filling Billy Butler’s shoes was a tough enough task as it was, but the Royals were going to bring on Kendrys Morales to fill his place?
