The Kansas City Chiefs are somewhat healthy heading into today’s match-up vs the New Orleans Saints. There are a couple of key players missing. Let’s discusses it.

The biggest names not playing for the Kansas City Chiefs today are cornerback Phillip Gaines and tight end Ross Travis.

Gaines will be missed badly due to the Chiefs taking on the Saints high powered offense lead by the quarterback Drew Brees. The KC Chiefs will lean heavily on Steven Nelson and rookies DJ White and Eric Murray.

The Chiefs corners will have to cover the Saints dynamic receiving corp. Marcus Peters should be on the speedster Brandin Cooks for most of the game. Nelson,

Nelson, White and Murray will try to cover Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and Brandon Coleman. The good news for the Chiefs is the Saints offense is less efficient on the road than at home.

The Saints average total yards per game on the road is 219.5 compared to 412.7 at home. That’s almost a 200-yard difference. This is good news for the Chiefs.

The good news doesn’t stop there either. Drew Brees passer rating dips from 114.3 at home to 82.8 on the road. If the KC Chiefs can get pressure on Brees, this will help the young corners to cheat and get a few more plays on the football than normal.

A couple of other guys of note for the Chiefs not active for the game today are linebacker Sio Moore and cornerback Terrance Mitchell.

With the absence of Justin March-Lillard, the depth at the linebacker position will be tested against the Saints. I was looking forward to watching Moore play for the Chiefs. I guess I’ll have to wait longer.

I’ve also wanted to take a look at what the veteran Terrance Mitchell had for the Chiefs defense. That will not happen this week. I wanted a veteran to be active to show the young corners how it’s done. Oh well.

The New Orleans Saints are without a few of their starters against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Paul Kruger is a dynamic pass rusher that will not hunt Alex Smith today. Other guys on this list have upside when they play but will not be a factor today.
