Kansas City Chiefs: Rookie Report Cards at the Bye Week
The Kansas City Chiefs were on a bye this past week. What have the rookies looked like so far for the team in the first four games of the season?
The KC Chiefs have seven rookies on their roster at the moment. While only one rookie has started for the Chiefs so far into the young season, most of these guys have made an impact at some point during the season.
Heading into the regular season, the Chiefs said good-bye to cornerback and third-round pick KeiVarae Russell and quarterback and fifth-round pick Kevin Hogan. Both of those guys were picked up by other teams.
Let’s take a look at the rookie report card up to this point in the season.
While Chris Jones has yet to start for the KC Chiefs, he doesn’t really have to. The Chiefs are good to go with Allen Bailey, Jaye Howard, and Dontari Poe up front for their defensive line, but Jones is a nice backup option to have.
He’s also good to have due to the fact that Poe is in the last year of his contract. We all know how tight for money the Chiefs are, and that could result in Poe playing his final year with Kansas City this season.
I’m not going to give Jones an A just yet because he has not recorded a sack. Then again… That might not really be fair, as no one on the Chiefs has been able to get pressure on the quarterback.
Jones has looked good as a rookie though, and he should be granted a starting role next season, assuming Poe does indeed depart in free agency.
