The lackluster play continues for the Kansas City Royals. The losing streak has hit six in a row and guys don’t like it. Yordano Ventura pitched inside tonight and rubbed some Orioles players the wrong way. Tensions escalated and a brawl ensued.

The game started off terribly for Yordano Ventura and the Kansas City Royals. The Orioles teed off on him in the first inning scoring four runs. It could have been worse but Lorenzo Cain made a spectacular leaping catch to rob Pedro Alvarez of a two run shot. After the first inning, Ventura settled down and pitched better.

The offense didn’t help Ventura at all. The Royals had multiple opportunities to score runs against Ubaldo Jimenez and failed on nearly every attempt. The lack of run support may have gotten to Ventura as the game progressed to the fifth inning. The inning everyone would like to forget.

During the bottom of the fifth inning, Ventura threw a 99 MPH first pitch fastball right at Manny Machado‘s hip. Prior to the fifth inning, he pitched Machado inside in the second inning. He got a little close to hitting him a few times and made Machado mad. When Ventura hit him, Machado charged the mound looking for trouble. Ventura greeted him with a right hook near the face. Not as clean as Rougned Odor against Jose Bautista but good enough to get his point across.

Ventura shouldn’t have hit Machado with the pitch. He needed to be the better man in that instance for himself and the Royals organization. Instead he took his frustrations out on Machado who got into his head a bit in the second inning.

Here’s a video of the brawl.

Both guys should be suspended by the MLB. Ventura shouldn’t have hit Machado and Machado shouldn’t have charged the mound looking for a fight. Ventura needed to stay in the game to help his team try to get a comeback win. Instead he let his emotions get to him and responded in an unprofessional manor.

This kind of stuff can not continue. He needs to learn how to control his emotions. I said in an earlier article I wanted Ventura’s passion back. This crosses the line. I wanted to see a guy who cared about winning and tonight I saw a guy who has not matured much at all.

The Kansas City Royals starting pitching staff is already terrible. When Ventura gets suspended, the pitching staff will be even worse. I’m not sure when the losing will end but this stunt makes winning tougher.
