The Kansas City Royals have gotten as much out of pitcher Chris Young as a starter, which was showcased by his less than stellar outing against Cleveland on Sunday.

It’s time for Chris Young to move to the bullpen and stay there. He currently is sporting a lousy 6.37 ERA and did not look good against the Indians on Sunday.

Young began the 2016 season in the starting rotation, but had a 6.68 ERA after seven starts and did not appear to be correcting his mistakes. It was revealed after his seventh start (when he happened to only go 2.2 innings against the Yankees), that Young would need to go on the disabled list.

When Young returned a few weeks ago, he was placed in the bullpen, where he actually faired quite well. In just two relief appearances, Young pitched four innings and only allowed two hits during that time.

He looked to be much more confident coming out of the bullpen, and that is where the Kansas City Royals need to keep him if they want to return to the postseason.

Look, I get it. Chris Young played a pivotal role in getting the Royals a World Series title last year. In fact, it’s safe to say that the boys in blue might not have come back to Kansas City with a World Series title had it not been for Young.

The guy was phenomenal during the World Series, and I understand the Royals wanting to try and give him another opportunity to redeem himself.

Unfortunately, baseball is a business, and the Royals need to move on from the Chris Young Experiment in the starting rotation. The guy isn’t going deep into games when he starts and gives up way too many fly balls.

In his latest start against the Indians, Young only went 4.2 innings and allowed four home runs and five earned runs. The Royals went on to lose 7-0 and were swept by their divisional rival. Oh and they lost the division lead. Still early, but still kind of a bummer, right? Right.

So, to sum things up, as much as Royals Nation is forever grateful for Chris Young and the role he played during the World Series, it’s time to leave him in the bullpen.

I understand that injuries are brutal for this team right now, but putting Young on the mound as a starter almost seems to be an automatic loss these days and that’s not going to get you back to the postseason.

Sorry, Chris. It’s just business.
