The KC Royals have hit a rough patch of events this week, losing several players to injuries. Can the team still continue to win and make the postseason with all of these unfortunate events?

With all of the rain and nasty weather in Kansas City, the Royals haven’t had a very fun week either. First, Alex Gordon was put on the disabled list due to a fractured wrist he sustained on a collision with Mike Moustakas in foul territory.

That same play caused Mike Moustakas to miss some games, and it was announced on Thursday that the former first round pick would be missing the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Lastly, Kendrys Morales is day to day with a sprained finger. Whether or not this is to blame for his struggles at the plate this season, we have no idea, but jeez, man. Three injuries to three of the Royals’ biggest players.

Will these injuries be the end of Kansas City Royals making a run this season? Obviously it’s still early on in the year and the Royals are sitting above .500, but it certainly doesn’t help the team when it comes to vying for their third straight World Series appearance.

Call me Negative Nancy, but having two of the longest tenured players on the Kansas City Royals roster isn’t the most reassuring to making it to their third consecutive postseason. The Royals have struggled frequently on offense this year, and Moustakas was having himself a good season. Not having him on the team will most definitely hurt.

With all of the injuries occurring (Chris Young and Kris Medlen also hit the disabled list a few weeks ago), the minor league players in the Kansas City Royals’ system now have the chance to prove themselves. Cheslor Cuthbert will now be the starting third baseman moving forward, Whit Merrifield can jump throughout the outfield and spend time at second base, and Brett Eibner got the call up in the news of Moose missing the rest of the year.

Despite the excitement of these guys finally getting their shots in the big league, it doesn’t look great for the KC Royals to make a push for their third straight playoff appearance. Hopefully I’m wrong and the Royals can still fight and claw their way back to the playoffs, but Moose being absent for the rest of the season is a rally killer for sure.

Now obviously, it’s baseball and anything can happen, but man… This is a huge blow to the KC Royals’ chances at defending their crown this year.

What do you think, Royals nation? Can the Kansas City Royals still make the playoffs without some of their key players?
