The KC Chiefs have a lot of potential on their roster heading into 2016 and have had three straight winning seasons to show that they’re ready to take the next step. Who are the guys on the cusp of greatness for the Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs posted an 11-5 record last season and won a playoff game for the first time in 22 years. This was just hopefully the beginning of great things to come for the organization.

These Chiefs have a lot of great players, but by no means are any of them the next Derrick Thomas, Tony Gonzalez, or even the old school guys like Bobby Bell or Buck Buchanan. At least not yet anyway.

With the Chiefs posting three straight winning seasons, there’s a lot of hope out there that this team will take the next step and become true Super Bowl contenders on the AFC side. They’ve proven they can win against tough teams, defeating the Super Bowl champions last year (the Broncos were in a slump then, but hey… We’ll take what we can get) and reeled off ten straight wins to end the regular season.

For the Kansas City Chiefs to take the next step, players will need to step up and truly be great. They’ll need to be leaders on and off the field and lead by example for their teammates

Are any of the current guys on the roster capable of becoming the next big thing in Kansas City? Let’s take a look at the five KC Chiefs who are on the cusp of greatness for the team.

Side note – You won’t see guys like Jamaal Charles, Tamba Hali, and Derrick Johnson on this list because they’re already sure shots at making the Chiefs Hall of Fame after they retire. They’re the best at their positions and have proven that there are guys out there who want to be lifelong Chiefs.
