KC Royals news focuses on the team’s pitching staff and on the special uniforms the Royals will be wearing for every Friday home game for the rest of the season.

The Kansas City Royals have seen some surprising results out of their starting pitching so far this season. Edinson Volquez has put up two nice performances, and Ian Kennedy put up a nice debut last weekend.

Not to mention the bullpen, who once again has proven to be one of the biggest strengths of the team. With Wade Davis, Kelvin Herrera, Luke Hochevar, and Joakim Soria, the Royals pretty much have four different closers that could come into the game to save a game.

The bullpen being good wasn’t much of a surprise, but the starting rotation looking decent this early on is a bit of a surprise. Volquez is the team’s best starter and has continued that role early on. Yordano Ventura will hopefully be able to jump into the ace role for next season.

Chris Young puts up the same type of performance most times, which is that he’ll go about five innings and give up a few runs in the process. He’s a decent starter and can typically bridge the gap before handing things over to the bullpen.

Ian Kennedy has been the most surprising, going 6.2 innings on Saturday and not allowing a single run. Now obviously Kennedy won’t have that type of performance every outing, but the large contract given to him during the offseason will stick in fans’ minds every time Kennedy takes the mound.

On a different note, the KC Royals will continue to wear their gold-trimmed jerseys and hats throughout this season. It was announced on Tuesday that the team was granted permission to wear said uniforms during every home game for the rest of the 2016 season.

Wearing these jerseys throughout the season is a great idea, as it’s an easy reminder for everyone that the Royals are still the top dogs in Major League Baseball.

It’s still early on in the season and with 162 games played in the MLB regular season, anything can happen. Just because one starter has a bad outing doesn’t mean he’s going to struggle in every game. Kris Medlen had a rough first inning against the Astros, but he settled in eventually and finished the night with seven strikeouts and his first win of the season.
