Today’s KC Royals news if focused on the Royals second win of the season and a rejuvenated Omar Infante. Is he back to…well something?

For the second straight Royals win, Omar Infante‘s RBI was the game winner. His first one came in the form of an RBI single to put the Royals up 4-0 against the Mets. It proved to hold up to a shaky joakim Soria outing.

This time he came through with a sacrifice fly that scored Salvador Perez to complete a Royals come from behind win. Yes the Royals were up to their old tricks of scoring late in the game to gain the lead and earn the victory.

This win felt a lot like the first one. Soria stumbled a little bit in the eighth, thought not nearly as badly, and gave way to a almost human Wade Davis. Fans are ready for a blowout so they can breathe easy. If they’re to keep that revenue stream flowing not everyone can be suffering heart attacks all the time.

There is something that doesn’t seem quite right though this season. The hitters for the Royals are striking out a lot. In the past two games they’ve struck out 22 times in just 63 at-bats. That’s a rate of nearly 35 percent.

More from Kansas City Royals

Last season the Royals struck out at a rate of just 17.4 percent so their strikeout percentage has doubled. While it’s still very early in the season and too soon to overreact, it is slightly unsettling that the ‘high-contact’ Royals aren’t making a lot of contact.

They only reached double digit strikeouts as a team on 16 occasions last season. Maybe they’re trying to get them all out of the way early.

What’s especially troubling is seeing Lorenzo Cain struggle at the plate. He doesn’t look confident and at times looked uncomfortable at the plate. He earned a golden sombrero last night by striking out four times. He’s now struck out in seven of his ten at-bats on the season.

The pitching in the third game of the season wasn’t all that great either. The Royals did strikeout 14 Twins’ batters and gave up only six hits on the night, but they also issued eight free passes. Two of those players that walked would go on to score. The Royals’ season high for walks issued in 2015 was seven.

At the end of the night, in spite of Omar Infante’s mighty sacrifice fly and double earlier in the game, it was Reymond Fuentes who received the patented ‘Salvy Splash’. His first hit as a member of the Royals put the Royals up 2-1 over the Twins thought that lead wouldn’t hold.

When it’s all said and done, the Royals avoided falling below .500 for the first time since July of 2014. Let that sink in for a minute. The Royals haven’t had a losing record in nearly two years. Here’s hoping for at least two more.

So what do you think KC Royals’ fans? Are the Royals in trouble? Is it too soon to say? Is there a World Series hangover? Is Omar Infante over the hump? Let me know your thoughts in the comments’ section below.
