The Kansas City Royals are currently the reigning World Series champions from a season ago. Who are the biggest contenders to dethrone them in 2016?

The KC Royals are public enemy number one heading into 2016 due to their World Series title in 2015. The team has been on fire the past two seasons, reaching the World Series in 2014 and 2015, and winning the whole thing last year.

The Royals, despite being World Series champions just a season ago, aren’t projected to win it all again in 2015. In fact, many projections have not been kind to the Royals and don’t even see them posting a winning season.

With that said, just who are the potential teams to give the Kansas City Royals a run for their money? There are a handful of scary teams heading into the majors this year, but they’ll have to get past the World Champion Kansas City Royals first.

Here are the five teams that pose the biggest threat to the Royals repeating in 2015. These will be both American League and National League teams on this list, as either way, they’ll have to eventually beat the Royals to win the title.
