The KC Chiefs put an end to years of heartbreak this season by winning a playoff game. What do they need to do to make it all the way?

The KC Chiefs finally have something they haven’t had in a long, long time: stability.

Andy Reid is heading into his fourth season as head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. John Dorsey is also entering his fourth season as the general manager.

Andy Reid has coached 48 regular season games for the Chiefs. His next game will be good enough for sixth all-time in game’s coached for Kansas City. The Chiefs haven’t had a coach last longer than three seasons since Dick Vermeil ran the team from 2001-2005.

The Chiefs also have a quarterback entering his fourth season as the Chiefs’ starter. Smith currently stands two games back of Matt Cassel with 46 games started. Though he’s only started 46 games, he stands 13th on the all-time list for games started by a Chiefs’ quarterback.

The KC Chiefs finally have a solid foundation to build upon. They’re coming off of a season that saw them overcome adversity in many forms. Eric Berry came back from Hodkins’ Lymphoma. Jamaal Charles went down with a second ACL injury only to be picked up by two unheralded young players.

Mired in the midst of a one and five start, the Chiefs bonded together and powered their way to a playoff berth. It was in Houston that the Chiefs put an end to 22 years of misery by winning a playoff game.

There is a bright future ahead for this team if they can build on the foundation that has been created. There are a few key things that need to happen this off-season to help them finish what they started.

Last year, it was the Royals who avenged their fairy-tale ending playoff loss. Can the KC Chiefs follow suit?
