KC Chiefs news fixates on two of the Chiefs’ best defensive players winning big awards at the NFL Honors ceremony on Saturday evening.

The NFL held their honors ceremony on Saturday night, and two Chiefs players brought home two big awards. Eric Berry won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award, and Marcus Peters won the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Berry joined the Chiefs during training camp this past summer after being diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma near the end of the 2014 season. He left the team during that time to get treatment and was right back at it eight months later. It’s truly an inspirational story, and Berry absolutely deserves this one.

Watching Berry run out of the tunnel on Thursday Night Football was an emotional moment. The guy beat cancer and less than a year later, was back out on the field making plays. He recorded his first interception since rejoining the team against the Steelers, and Chiefs Kingdom went bonkers.

Berry finished his amazing comeback season with 55 tackles, ten defended passes, and two interceptions. He also was voted to the Pro Bowl, his fourth in only six seasons.

Marcus Peters was Kansas City’s 18th overall pick in the draft last year. Fans were a bit confused by the pick, as the team had just drafted a cornerback early on the year prior, and Peters seemed to be a bit of a loose cannon.

Well, the rookie shut everyone up pretty fast, picking off Brian Hoyer on the first defensive snap of the 2015 regular season. He finished the season with 53 tackles, 26 defended passes, and eight interceptions (two for touchdowns). Just a remarkable season for the rookie.

Eric Berry’s comeback player of the year vote wasn’t very close [Joel Thorman, Arrowhead Pride]

"Berry received 38 of the 50 votes for the Associated Press comeback player of the year award. Carson Palmer, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback, came in second with six votes. Palmer had an outstanding year for the Cardinals and only received six votes — that shows just show special Berry’s year was."

Both of these men exemplify what the Kansas City Chiefs look for in their players. It would be awesome if the KC Chiefs could lock Berry up to a contract to keep him in Kansas City.
