KC Royals News: Jonny Gomes And Ring Ceremonies

facebooktwitterreddit

Today’s KC Royals news focuses on Jonny Gomes new team and the Royals’ World Series ring presentation.

Jonny Gomes will continue his baseball career wearing a Rakuten Eagles jersey in the Japanese Baseball League next season. He penned an article for The Players Tribune explaining his decision. Whether he’s being loud on the field celebrating or wearing loud clothing off the field, Japan is in for a treat.

Jonny Gomes didn’t do a whole lot for the Royals last season. He didn’t play in a single postseason game but he didn’t shy away from getting in on the action. When Eric Hosmer tied the game in the top of the ninth in game five of the World Series, Gomes was the first one welcoming him back to the dugout.

When the Royals returned to Kansas City to celebrate with their fans, Jonny Gomes took center stage. He delivered a speech that Royals’ players and fans will remember for years to come. In case you forgot or you’re just feeling nostalgic, here’s the video:

Jonny Gomes is a pretty good dude. He’s fun to watch and takes your mind of the fact that he’s not so good at baseball. In honor of Jonny Gomes: Best speech giver in the league…Not on this team…Beat him (in the 2014 Wild Card Game).  Jonny, you will be missed.

It was also recently announced that the Royals would receive their World Series ring in the second game of the season. It’s fitting that the Mets have to watch the Royals receive the rings that they let slip away. Royals’ fans won’t mind seeing that rub some salt in the wound for Noah Syndergaard in particular.

They’ll also raise their championship banner on opening night. The Mets get to watch the Royals celebrate up close and personal on the first two games of the season. It would be absolutely demoralizing if the Royals had to watch the Mets receive rings on their home turf. Luckily, that’s the Mets problem to deal with.

"Jonny Gomes is a lot of things. He is quite the character, almost cartoonish in a way, and may well have a future in professional wrestling when he is done with baseball. He is also quite an excellent teammate, and is considered a clubhouse leader."

The Royals’ season will be under way before we know it but somehow it still seems so far away. It’s hard to control the excitement that comes with any new season, but starting a season as defending World Champions is especially exciting.

There hasn’t been a lot going on for the Royals in the past few days so it would appear all of the pieces are in place. Now all we have to do is wait for some game action.
