The KC Chiefs have been eliminated from the 2016 NFL playoffs. It is now time to start looking forward to next season and the free agents that could help the Chiefs make another playoff run.

The KC Chiefs got their first playoff victory since way back in 1994 when they beat the Houston Oilers who are no longer an NFL franchise. Hall of Famer and arguably the best quarterback in NFL history Joe Montana was at the helm for the Chiefs in this game and he has been retired for over twenty years.

Bottom line is, it had been awhile since they won a really important game.

Just a few weeks ago, the current version of the KC Chiefs finally won a playoff game, scorching the Houston Texans 30-0. Sorry ’bout that Houston fans.

Now the Chiefs’ organization is in a similar place to where the KC Royals were after they lost the first of their consecutive World Series appearances. The Royals hadn’t won anything in about thirty years heading into that World Series matchup with the San Francisco Giants.

The Royals’ front office had to try to keep together the nucleus of their extremely talented team while attempting to improve it to make another deep playoff run as well. This is on top of having to worry about spending a bunch of money because Kansas City is one of the smallest markets in the entire MLB, bringing in less money to owner David Glass than he would get in almost any other town that currently has an MLB team.

The Chiefs compare because they are on the up-rise for sure, but are losing a few of their own key players and have to try to build onto what they already have there. So with this in mind, it is now time to look ahead to the 2016 NFL Free Agency period where the Chiefs can build on their nucleus that got the first playoff win in the last 20 seasons.
