The KC Chiefs are coming off their first playoff win in 22 years and Kansas City fans are on cloud nine.

The KC Chiefs dismantled the Houston Texans this weekend in spite of a slow going offense. It was the second time season that a Kansas City team has bested a Houston opponent, but it wasn’t nearly as dramatic as the first time.

The Chiefs and Royals have some interesting similarities this year including opening the playoffs against a Houston opponent. The Chiefs had a 4.7 percent chance of even making the playoffs after a 1-5 start. Then, perhaps inspired by another down but never out team in the Royals, the Chiefs went on a tear winning ten straight to make it in to the playoffs.

The Royals won the World Series and the Chiefs haven’t lost since. Last year, the roles were reversed a little bit.

Last year, it was the Chiefs in a September 29th game, that may have done the inspiring that sent the Royals on an eight game playoff winning streak and a World Series berth.

Everyone remembers when the Chiefs found a way to turn Peyton Manning into a backup earlier this season, but perhaps lost in the shuffle of recent KC sports success, is the memory of doing the same thing to Tom Brady last season. Last year, it was the Chiefs in a September 29th game, that may have done the inspiring that sent the Royals on an eight game playoff winning streak and a World Series berth.

The Chiefs made it look like child’s play, as they drove Tom Brady to the bench and had national media talking about the end of the Brady era. Tom went ahead and won the Super Bowl last year just for good measure, deflated footballs or otherwise.

This year it was the Chiefs who were written off early in the season. Can they follow suit and win it all? To start, they’re going to have to get by a great team led by maybe the best quarterback of all time. Don’t expect it to be as easy as the last time these teams faced off as Tom Brady likely seeks revenge.

Let’s look at what the KC Chiefs are going to have to do to make it one step closer to completing the best year in KC sports history.
