The KC Chiefs won a playoff game! They beat the Houston Texans 30-0 in a blowout. Now they head to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots.

The KC Chiefs got a playoff win! This is the first playoff win for the franchise since way back in January of 1994 over the Houston Oilers who are no longer an NFL franchise. What a day for Kansas City fans!

The Houston Texans and their quarterback Brian Hoyer proved to be no match for the red-hot KC Chiefs, turning the ball over five times (should have been six) and not even getting onto the score board. The Chiefs finally looked like the superior team in a playoff game in all three phases.

The defense proved to be what we all prayed for heading into this game. The defensive backfield was outstanding, the run game was basically non-existent for most of the game, and turnovers were almost expected after about the third one. The defensive backs played very well on DeAndre Hopkins, who has developed into one of the best receivers in the entire NFL.

With the win, the KC Chiefs move on to the conference semi-finals to take on the #2 seed New England Patriots on the road. The Patriots are beat up, but still have eventual Hall of Famer Tom Brady at the helm that gives the Patriots an edge by default. The Chiefs are 2-4 all-time against Brady and have allowed him to have some pretty good games against them.

Bernard Pollard, who played with the KC Chiefs back in the day, rolled up on Tom Brady’s knee back in 2008 which ended up tearing Brady’s ACL, causing him to miss the rest of the season.

Here’s a look:

Brady’s backup? None other than Mr. Matt Cassel.

Cassel obviously went on to get traded to the Chiefs and started here for a few seasons before moving on to the Minnesota Vikings. Very unsuccessfully I might add.

The last time the Chiefs saw Brady and the Pats was early last season when the Chiefs routed them 41-14 and some were calling for Brady’s job with the talented youngster Jimmy Garoppolo sitting behind him for the time being. His QBR in that game before being pulled for Garoppolo was just 22.2.

Some would say that loss was what sparked the Patriots to go on to win the Super Bowl later last season.

So do the Chiefs stand a chance this season against arguably the best quarterback in NFL history? I think they do. The Chiefs defense is just too good. Their corners are one of the best groups in the NFL today, and with the Patriots depleted passing attack, they might be able to keep him in check. Or at least, slow him down.

On the offensive side of the ball, Alex Smith needs to remain with his normal game plan and be a game-manager because the Patriots defense is solid, and the crowd will be rowdy.

This game should be another good one. We are in store for one of the best and most important Chiefs’ games we’ve seen in franchise history. With only one Super Bowl win and no playoff wins in the last 22 years until Saturday, the matchup with such a good team and player like Tom Brady will bring a lot of hype to the game.

We are spoiled as Kansas City fans this year.
