KC Chiefs: 2015 Team Has Chance To Become Legends

facebooktwitterreddit

Any KC Chiefs fan is well aware about the long history of losing in the NFL postseason. It’s never been a speciality of the Chiefs to win in the playoffs.

While it’s frustrating to say the least, the 2015 Kansas City Chiefs team has a chance to reverse all of that. They have a chance to do something that a Chiefs team hasn’t accomplished in 22 years – Win a playoff game.

If the 2015 Chiefs can do that, they’d be legends in this town (until they finally win a Super Bowl, that is).

It might seem silly that we’d be so excited to celebrate a team, simply for winning one playoff game, but it’s been 22 years. Twenty-two years of heartbreak in the postseason that has almost convinced fans this team isn’t capable of making it to the promise land.

Simply put – If this Chiefs team can win in Houston on Saturday, they’ll go down as legends in a lot of fans’ books. That might seem dumb, but no team has done this since 1994.

Before the season began, I predicted this KC Chiefs team to go 12-4 and win the AFC West. We all know that the beginning of the season didn’t go quite as planned, with the team dropping to 1-5, but they certainly pulled themselves out of that horrific slump.

In fact, the team did such a good job in the back half of the season, that they were able to win ten straight games, and clinch a playoff berth by week 16. It was an unthinkable scenario and one that has not occurred in the National Football League before.

That reason alone is why this season could be considered a success to some, but to me, this season won’t be a success unless one thing happens: The Chiefs must win a playoff game.

This is something that has been a long time coming. This is the year it needs to change. This is the year it SHOULD change.

Whether it was three missed field goals or a defensive collapse in the second half, the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans have experienced all types of heartbreak when it comes to postseason losses. This year just feels different though, and hopefully it will be.

Alex Smith played his best game as a Chief (and arguably of his career) in the team’s last playoff game (2013 season against the Colts) throwing for nearly 400 yards and four touchdowns. The guy was on fire, and that was saying something because Jamaal Charles was out of the game after one series.

If Smith can bring his postseason best along with the offensive line protecting him and giving the running backs holes to run through, and the defense doing their part, there should be no reason why this KC Chiefs team can’t pull out a win in Houston on Saturday.

If the 2015 Kansas City Chiefs finally win a playoff game, this city is going to go wild. We all know how much the people of Kansas City rallies around their teams, so if a victory occurs for the Chiefs in Houston, the streets of Kansas City are going to be littered with red confetti and beer bottles.
