KU basketball news headlines with the possibility of the number one ranking with Michigan State’s loss, predictions of upcoming games, and more.

KU basketball could be ranked number one when the new polls come out on Monday because they are currently second, and the current top-ranked team Michigan State lost to Iowa with Denzel Valentine, their best player out indefinitely due to injury.

This year’s version of the Kansas Jayhawks is very exciting. Led by point guard Frank Mason III and big man Perry Ellis, this team looks good enough to get back to the Final Four if they can stay healthy. They have a perfect combination of youth and experience and have a deep bench that Bill Self could break out at any time.

KU basketball doesn’t seem to have much of a weakness this year, as with their depth, defensive prowess, and offensive skill, amongst other things, there just aren’t many teams that are as complete as this one.

Freshman center Cheick Diallo has become eligible after starting the season with some eligibility issues. He provides the Jayhawks with athleticism from the two big-man spots, which without him, they wouldn’t have from any other big man other than Jamari Traylor, who isn’t nearly as skilled offensively in my opinion.

Now let’s take a look at what the rest of the internet has to say about the Jayhawks over the last few days:

But the counter-argument to KU is that Diallo hasn’t been that impactful since becoming eligible. So would he really have been the difference between a win and a loss against the Spartans?"

Weekend Predictions: Kansas, Oklahoma both win, set up No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown

"Here’s a quote about Kansas from someone close to the Baylor program: “You ain’t gonna beat them in Lawrence. Not happening.” That’s the general thought process of every Big 12 supporter. And that’s not the only reason to pick Kansas."

Once A Jayhawk, Always A Jayhawk: Clinton Johnson [KU athletics]

"In the 1977-78 season, after two difficult seasons in a row, the Jayhawks came together as a family and had a successful year in Johnson’s final campaign donning the Crimson and Blue. He started in 20 games and helped Kansas reclaim the Big Eight title as the team finished with a 24-5 record. Johnson averaged 8.2 points per game along with 2.9 rebounds a"
