The KC Royals had a historic season in 2015 and have given their fan base a lot to be thankful this holiday season.

The Kansas City Royals captivated all of Kansas City in 2015. From the 7-0 start to acquiring guys like Johnny Cueto and Ben Zobrist midway through the season to getting eight guys elected into the All-Star Game to winning the whole freakin’ thing, this season was one for the books.

It’s incredibly difficult to win a championship in any sport, but the KC Royals got it done in 2015. After falling 90 feet short of the tying run in 2014, the Royals came back stronger and tougher in 2015 to shed that “90 feet away” label and to get back what should have been theirs.

Royals fans will be thankful for their team this holiday season, but what are some areas that fans should be thankful for moving forward?

Let’s take a look.

5) Edinson Volquez will be back in the rotation

The Royals rotation was one of their biggest problems in 2015, even after acquiring Johnny Cueto in mid July. Cueto will be long gone by the time the 2016 season is nearing, but the good news is that Edinson Volquez will be back for next season.

Volquez was easily the Royals’ most reliable starter in the rotation. He went 13-9 in 33 starts and ended the season with a 3.55 ERA. Volquez proved his value the most during the postseason when he started five games for the Royals and always gave them a valiant effort.

Volquez’s most impressive start during the postseason came when he took the mound against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of the ALCS and held them to a shutout in six innings.

Edinson signed a two-year deal last off-season so he’s still a member of the Royals for 2016. So, be thankful Royals fans, we get to enjoy Edinson Volquez and his fiery antics for one more season at the very least.
