KC Chiefs: Jamaal Charles Out For Season With Torn ACL

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Chiefs can’t catch a break, as their star running back went down on Sunday on a non-contact play.

Jamaal Charles is out for the season with a torn ACL, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN. It’s another huge blow to the Kansas City Chiefs, who blew an 11 point lead on Sunday and ended up losing to the Chicago Bears.

Charles ran with the ball in the third quarter when the Chiefs were in the red zone and fell awkwardly without contact. It looked bad right away, as he wasn’t touched and had to be helped off the field. The Chiefs went on to melt down after Charles left the game. They had a field goal blocked and ultimately let the Bears win the game in the final minute.

The Chiefs now sit at 1-4 on the year, and with Charles out for the year, things are looking very grim for this team. I ranted about the loss earlier on Sunday and while some of it might have seemed harsh, I doubt there were a ton of people who disagreed with me.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

This team is in a heap of trouble without their star running back leading the way. Jamaal Charles is the face of the franchise and without him, I don’t see how Kansas City will be able to put up any points whatsoever.

Knile Davis was essentially benched in favor of Charcandrick West, which isn’t a good sign. Davis has stepped up in Charles’ absence in the past and has played well, but still… This sucks. I’m very concerned about this offense and how they’re going to get anything done without Jamaal Charles.

This is now a huge moment for Andy Reid and Alex Smith. If they can rebound and get the Chiefs some wins, it might be enough to please the fans in the absence of Charles, but I don’t see that happening.

I’m in full on panic mode here.

The Chiefs aren’t going to make the postseason with Knile Davis and Charcandrick West as their running backs. The pressure now shifts to Smith to get the ball in the air and make plays downfield. It’s going to be a tough task for the former number one overall pick, but if he can do it, it could save this season somewhat.

I’m not thinking playoffs anymore. I’m thinking avoiding having the worst record in the league. But hey… If that happened, maybe the Chiefs could actually get a good pick instead of a bust of an offensive lineman (cough Eric Fisher cough).

Okay. Rant over. Good bye.
